Yes, the little eggplant grew bigger. And then it was decided by the chefs in the house that it would go well in that evening's curry dish, and so it was harvested.... And it was very tasty. But it did seem a little sad to pick it, after watching it grow from a sweet little baby to a handsome teenager. But I suppose that is the point of a kitchen garden.

It seems to me that adolescence is sort of sad in general, not just for eggplants. You work so hard to get your kids to be not merely safe and well cared for, but interesting people. Just when they get interesting, their social lives pull them away from you...their social lives being sort of like the chefs in your house.
ReplyDeleteRight now there doesn't even seem to be a hint of a sibling. Possibly an only child. But that would be normal for our one vegetable per plant garden...
